The July 2013 edition of the SE News provides the latest data available from the ETUI's European Company (SE) Database. As of 1 July, a total of 1,865 SEs were registered in 25 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), an increase of nearly 100 SEs in the past three months. Recently, several companies have completed their negotiations on employee involvement, among them the three Germany-based companies TRIMET Aluminium SE, TRIMET SE and AL-KO KOBER SE, as well as Valneva SE, with its head office in France.

Facts in brief as of 1 July 2013, since the previous SE News (1 April 2013):

  • Total number of SEs: 1865 [+99 SEs].
  • 25 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) host European Companies; to our knowledge, only Bulgaria, Greece, Iceland, Romania and Slovenia still host none. Since 1 July SEs can be set up also in Croatia.
  • 252 SEs have been identified by the ECDB as having more than five employees (so-called ‘normal’ SEs). De facto, however, the number is likely to be significantly higher.
  • 4 SEs moved their registered office from one EEA country to another.
  • Only one SE was deregistered from national registers.
  • In addition to the already registered SEs, the ECDB currently provides information on 10 planned SEs (2 new planned SEs on the list since April 2013).
